Estrogen Effects On Men You May Not Be Aware Of
There are many positive and negative estrogen effects on men and various reasons why men choose to take it. It is primarily a female sex hormone that is produced both artificially and naturally. Technically speaking, estrogen gets its name from the estrous cycle. They are steroid compounds that illustrate all of the hormonal changes that women go through when they have their menstrual cycle and through pregnancy. It is also responsible for the changes that a female goes through as an adolescent to become a teenager and then later in life when menopause strikes.
In women, estrogen appears in three forms being estrone, estradiol and estriol. Just as it causes women to have a high voice, grow breasts, be more emotional at times and appear feminine, estrogen effects on men are quite similar.
History
Scientists began researching the estrogen effect on men back in 1923. In 1930, the first oral pharmaceutical estrogen called Emmenin hit the market. Near the turning of the century, transsexual women started taking this product as a hormone-replacement therapy. Doing so allowed them to appear feminine since their body went through numerous changes, resulting in them being accepted as a female.
Effects On A Man's Body
It is reported that estrogen effects on men include scalp hair growth, diabetes, vision changes, body temperature changes, mood swings, growth in breast tissue, voice changes, weight gain, stretch marks, decrease in sexual interest, acne and sin irritation, gonadal size change, reduced body hair, body odor changes and enlarged nipples. It is never recommended to take estrogen if breast cancer runs in your family as it increases your risk tremendously.
Estrogen for Prostate Cancer
When studying estrogen effects on men, it is suggested that after the prostate's infected areas are removed from the patient, taking estrogen after will actually prevent any further spreading of the cancer. This has not been approved yet and is not considered an official prostate cancer treatment. For now, if the patient runs the risk of the cancer returning, many doctors choose to suppress testosterone levels but very few prescribe estrogen pills as of yet since it is still technically in the experimental stage. Many doctors also feel that some of the negative effects are far too high of a risk to take.
Advantages Vs. Disadvantages
Estrogen effects on men certainly has its advantages and disadvantages. If you are taking estrogen in order to prevent any further spreading of cancerous cells, the healthy benefits more than outweigh any negative side effects and changes that your body is going to go through. If you happen to be a transgender female, you might need to take the estrogen along with other hormones as part of a hormone-replacement therapy regimen. If you have an interest in starting hormone-replacement therapy, you need to discuss with your doctor how estrogen will affect you.
Warnings Of Estrogen
Estrogen effects on men may also include a severe allergic reaction. Common symptoms of an estrogen allergic reaction include rash, rapidly weakened muscles and significant joint swelling. These allergies are quite rare but they are considered extremely serious. If you begin experiencing any of these symptoms, you need to seek medical attention immediately and never take more that the recommended dosage, even if you think doing so will allow you to see results faster. An estrogen overdose has the potential to be deadly so if you suspect that you or someone else may have exceeded estrogen dosage, you need to cal 911 or the Poison Control Center right away. Lastly, never under any circumstances, take estrogen that has not been specifically prescribed to you by your doctor.
